Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges are a fixed solution to missing or damaged teeth. This restorative procedure uses prosthetic devices to return your smile to its natural state. A crown is used when the tooth structure is damaged or fractured. A bridge is used when one or more teeth are missing.

At Straight Road Dental Practice, Our expert clinicians can help you to get your teeth fully functional, restore your confidence and your beautiful smile. Call # 01206 769695 to schedule an appointment with us.

Crowns

A crown is basically a cap for a damaged tooth. It’s generally made of porcelain or ceramic that can be colour and texture-matched to your existing teeth. A crown can also be made of gold & silver alloys.

If your teeth have heavily broken down, heavily filled, or severely discoloured, a dental crown is one option to repair them so that you can smile again with confidence.

Bridges

Dental bridges are one of the few ways to replace a missing tooth. When you have one or more missing teeth, then a dental bridge may be used to restore the resulting gaps.

The dental bridge is basically a false tooth, beautifully created from porcelain that fills the gap and is supported by adjacent teeth or implants.

Bridges can vary in designs: Traditional fixed dental bridge, Cantilever dental bridge, Resin bonded dental bridges / Maryland dental bridge and Implant supported dental bridges.

How Are Crowns & Bridges Fitted?

Crowns are applied by reducing the size of the existing tooth via filing away the outer enamel and some of the underlying dentin, so that the crown can be placed over top of it. The crown is then secured with dental cement. This process usually takes two separate visits to the dentist, but once finished a dental crown can remain with you for life.

A bridge consists of false teeth rigidly attached between two crowns. The teeth on either side of the gap are prepared for these crowns and the bridge is cemented into place. In some cases, it’s possible to use implants to replace the missing teeth rather than using the existing teeth. Once a bridge is cemented into position, it looks and works just like natural teeth.

Crown & Bridge Care

Once your crown or bridge is fitted, it’s important to maintain a regular and effective routine of oral hygiene. Brush and floss two to three times a day, taking extra care to floss around your crown.

Whether you have a crown or a bridge, the most important thing is to regularly visit your dentist for a checkup and clean. This way problems can be detected early, allowing them to be corrected before they become painful and expensive.

A painless extraction. I had suddenly lost a large filling in a tooth that had been troublesome for sometime. I phoned at 9:30 and spoke to a very efficient receptionist who offered me a 12:30 appointment as a new NHS patient. On arrival at the practice I was met by a very friendly dental nurse and ushered through to the treatment room where the dentist began the examination, taking great care to reassuringly explain how he intended to proceed. All options were explained to me and it was obvious the tooth needed to come out. From the application of anaesthetic to the final extraction, I can honestly say the most I felt was a slight discomfort. Afterwards the aftercare was carefully explained in detail and I was provided with written instructions. I am genuinely impressed by the friendly and professional service provided at short notice and have no hesitation in recommending the practice.
