Who is a candidate for Dental Sedation?

You are a candidate for dental sedation if you exhibit any of the below:
  • Fear or Anxiety of visiting a dentist
  • Fear of dentist drill or other instruments
  • Allergic to smell of dental office
  • Prior bad experience for a dental procedure
  • Having sensitive teeth
  • Need of a complex treatment

Oral Sedation Procedure

  • Patients are asked to take a sedative drug either as a tablet or a liquid
  • It takes 10 -20 minutes for the effects of the drug to start working. Once you are sedated, dental treatment can then commence.
  • You will be awake and will still be able to communicate verbally with us
  • Following your treatment you will be required to stay at the practice until your clinician is satisfied that you are well enough to be accompanied home

How do I Prepare for sedation?

  • Discuss your treatment & sedation options with your dentist
  • Arrange for someone to accompany you to the clinic & back home
  • Let the dentist know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have cold, cough or any other illness
  • You may have a light meal before the appointment
  • Take all your regular medicines as normal
  • Wear loose comfortable clothing
  • Keep your valuables at home

When will I be able to go home?

  • You should be ready to go home about 1-2 hours after the start of your treatment
  • You will be assessed to ensure you are ready to go home
  • Your clinician will give you any extra care instructions depending on the treatment carried out that day
  • Do not go home by public transport (i.e. bus, train, underground)
  • You can eat and drink as soon as you get home; however it is best to wait until the effects of any local anesthetic have worn off (usually 2-4 hours)

Always been afraid of going to the dentist, since being a patient of Santosh and his team all my fears have gone. Santosh is so gentle ,explains everything and constantly reassures you.The hygienist is also excellent, wouldn't say I look forward to visiting but certainly much more relaxed. Highly recommend 👌

A painless extraction. I had suddenly lost a large filling in a tooth that had been troublesome for sometime. I phoned at 9:30 and spoke to a very efficient receptionist who offered me a 12:30 appointment as a new NHS patient. On arrival at the practice I was met by a very friendly dental nurse and ushered through to the treatment room where the dentist began the examination, taking great care to reassuringly explain how he intended to proceed. All options were explained to me and it was obvious the tooth needed to come out. From the application of anaesthetic to the final extraction, I can honestly say the most I felt was a slight discomfort. Afterwards the aftercare was carefully explained in detail and I was provided with written instructions. I am genuinely impressed by the friendly and professional service provided at short notice and have no hesitation in recommending the practice.
